YOUR NEW CAREER IN FITNESS TRAINING & INSTRUCTION

Elissa has worked in the fitness industry as an instructor, coordinator and educator for the last 25 years. Her passion for fitness began after her retirement from professional dancing. She started started as a freelance fitness instructor working in health clubs, which very quickly led to a position as a studio coordinator. An element of this role involved employing instructors, which she found very difficult, as very few people were qualified at this time and the standard was poor among those already teaching. This launched her career in education where she was then able to influence standards and ensure the graduates that qualified where of a high standard. Elissa specialises in Fitness instructing, Pilates, Exercise Referral and Sports therapy, working both in group exercise and personal training.

Her career has been varied and has involved teaching and assessing in Further Education, health clubs, leisure centres and private training centres. The next stage of her career took her into quality assurance, where she currently works as an experienced internal quality assurer for various training providers and Awarding Organisation. In addition, Elissa also works as an External Quality Assurer ensuring high standards and supporting centres and colleges across the country. Elissa has recently been commissioned to help with the development of new qualifications for the fitness industry.

The most natural progression for Elissa was to launch her own training company….

Eileen has worked in the fitness, health and well-being industry for the past 21 years. She has an extensive background in education and has taught across a wide spectrum of subjects in sport, health and fitness in further and higher education. Her roles have been varied, including leading course teams, coordinating quality assurance and qualification and assessment development.

Eileen had the privilege for many years to teach prescriptive exercise to people with physical disabilities. It was this period of her life that spurred a deeper interest in injury, rehabilitation, exercise and disease and ultimately to undertaking an Msc. in Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Her areas of expertise and interest lies in lifestyle related disease, low back pain and sports therapy. Eileen also works as an educational consultant in internal and external quality assurance for a number of different Awarding Organisations and companies and is proud to be a judge for the World Skills – Fitness Trainer Competitions. Her love and passion for this industry has never faltered and this is expressed in her enthusiasm and dedication for raising standards and ensuring all students have a valuable, rewarding learning experience.

Sarah has many fitness industry qualifications and is extensively educated in the remit of health and exercise science. In addition to achieving a Certificate in Education and BSc. (Hons) in Physiotherapy she holds two masters degrees with distinction (MSc. Clinical Exercise Physiology & MRes. Musculoskeletal Ageing). Academically, she is a high achiever and is working towards an NIHR funded Doctorate in Primary Care where she is investigating commissioned physical activity programmes that are being delivered to older people. Sarah’s expertise lies in exercise prescription in clinical populations specifically in the remit of exercise in ageing and low back pain. She has lectured across a wide spectrum of educational levels from people working towards level one fitness courses to doctors and health care professionals working towards master’s degrees.

Aside from working she has a passion for participating and coaching in Olympic weightlifting, Pilates and high intensity interval training.

• Zoe Sports Massage Therapist since 2007

Zoe is an experienced and committed therapist who has worked with a range of different clients during her career, including professional athletes in all kinds of environments, including event work, gyms and clinical environments.

Zoe now has her own well-established busy clinic working along-side other therapists, which include a Chiropractor and Osteopath. Zoe’s experience of working with other professionals has helped her to expand her knowledge and has given her a broad outlook on different ways to observe, assess and treat clients. Zoe uses Sports Massage as well as the Bowen Technique and specialises in using advanced techniques and corrective exercises to deal with dysfunctional tissue and injury.

Zoe is very passionate about massage and and enjoys continuing to learn and is always inspired by how amazing people are and is forever interested in how the human body works. Zoe is an extremely enthusiastic, suppotive and motivational tutor and finds great pleasure in sharing her knowledge and experience.

Outside of work Zoe enjoys cycling, especially touring when she gets the time.

Martin has worked in the health and fitness industry for the past 15 years. He was a keen sportsman at School and University, particularly interested in Rugby. It was during this time he developed a real interest in how to train his own body, to perform better and how to recover faster. Martin has a great love for the outdoors and tries to incorporate his health and fitness interests into adventurous activities like skiing, rock climbing and mountain biking. He is also a devoted vegan and has a real passion in teaching nutritional science within courses.

Martin enrolled and qualified in his first fitness course with Eileen as his tutor, not long after leaving school, and has spent the last 15 years developing himself professionally, both as a trainer and therapist. Martin’s career has also ventured down the fitness management and business development route which has included managing gyms in the corporate and commercial sector with clubs with over 2000 members, to owning his own personal training facility. This experience has given him solid industry experience which he is able to pass on in his teaching, better preparing learners for the real world.

Martin qualified as a Sports Therapist in 2010 and has worked in sports injury clinics, with professional sports teams and runs a clinic in the Cobalt Business Park. Martin many years working in and around exercise referral and exercise rehabilitation and this area continues to be his real passion.

Martin is passionate about using his vast amount of skills, knowledge and experience to inspire the next generation of Personal Trainers and Sports Massage Therapists. Martin strives to always develop his own knowledge and skills whilst the health and fitness industry evolves. He continues to push his self-development by completing new qualifications, attending conferences and workshops around the country.
