ABOUT THE COURSE
This qualification aims to train you to a professionally competent level, enabling you to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes developing your skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training. During the qualification you will cover:
- Anatomy, physiology, functional kinesiology and concepts and components of fitness
- Nutrition for exercise, health and fitness
- Lifestyle and medical factors that affect wellbeing
- Analysis of client information using the most accepted techniques
- Planning and conducting of physical activity sessions, within a variety of environments using multiple resources
- Client consultations using the most accepted methods and providing strategies for successful behaviour change.
- Communication skills to effectively build successful relationships with their clients and other health care professionals
- Legal and professional requirements for personal training
- How to set up and manage a personal training business on a self-employed basis if they wish to
- How to manage, evaluate and improve own performance.
- Nutrition for sport and exercise performance.
YOU WILL BE
- Aged 16+ (note 16-18 year olds may need to be supervised in the workplace after qualifying).
- Wishing to pursue a career in the health and fitness sector as a personal trainer

- Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
You should have some experience of gym-based exercises, including free weights.
The course requires physical exertion, and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary.
There is an element of communication (discussion, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication.
As this course is predominately online you will need access to a computer with a stable internet connection.

Although this course is on-line, for you will be able to access all of our face to face sessions with your tutor. Some learners benefit/appreciate face to face time and the flexibility to do a mix or on-line and face to face.
PROGRESSION
This qualification is recognised as an approved qualification for entry as a Professional member of CIMPSA. Learners who successfully complete this programme will be equipped to work as personal trainers in a variety of contexts throughout the sport and active leisure industry.
- This qualification provides progression onto:
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Pilates Matwork.
- Active IQ Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Yoga.
- Level 4 special populations-related qualifications.
- You may also progress onto qualifications in related sectors, e.g. Sports Massage, where you will be provided with the knowledge and skills to practise sports massage alongside personal training in a health club environment or in your own business.
